This gorgeous pendant features a large, rectangular antique mother-of-pearl gaming counter set in 18k yellow gold. Mother-of-pearl gaming counters were originally carved in China for export to Britain, where they were used as gambling chips, much like poker chips are used in the United States. Each gaming counter was finely hand-engraved with scenes depicting life in ancient China or with motifs that were popular at the time. These gaming counters were carved between the early 1700's and the late 1800's. This particular gaming chip has beautiful pearlescent luster and an intricate openwork frame. It's style indicates that it was carved in the late 1700's. It is set in a finely textured 18k yellow gold frame with bezel set blue kyanite gemstone cabochons. A beautiful piece of historic art-as-jewelry and a stunning conversation piece!
