This striking necklace features an antique, mother-of-pearl Chinese gambling counter dating back to the 18th Century. The rectangular gaming counter is framed in rich 18k yellow gold and blackened silver, in an eye-catching design that looks gorgeous worn with both casual and dressy attire! The 18k yellow gold bail, frame and accents have all been beautifully hand-engraved, including the bell "tassel" complete with a delicate pearl clanger.
Originally carved in China for export to Britain, gaming counters were used like we would use poker chips. Each was engraved by hand with exquisite detail; different sizes and shapes were made to represent different denominations. These are original counters that we have made into an elegant line of jewelry we call our "Eastern Gates Collection."
The designs in this collection were inspired by the architecture of ancient China; each unique gaming counter is set in hand-engraved 18k yellow gold with brightly polished silver (and/or blackened silver). The pieces all complement each other beautifully and are perfect for wearing alone or mixing and matching in various combinations. Wonderful conversation pieces that display beautiful craftsmanship, rich history, and a lasting appreciation of art! Handcrafted by our jewelers in Los Angeles.
This pendant measures 7/8" in width and 2-3/8" from the top of the bail to the bottom of the pearl bell. One 18-inch, blackened steel link chain is included; chains up to 30" in length are also available.
(We also have a larger version of this pendant that measures 1-1/16" in width and 2-5/8" from the top of the bail to the bottom the pearl bell. Larger version sold separately.)
Please refer to the history of the gaming counter shown alongside our additional photographs of this pendant.
